From 1st May 2017 you will be able to pay by card in the shop for gift vouchers, intensive courses, first lesson booking, block bookings. With no fee.
This makes it easier to secure your space and allows you to pre-pay for a block to take advantage of our offers. Gift vouchers can still be collected on a Saturday morning between 9 and 12, or other times by arrangement. We will also deliver pre paid vouchers to addresses within the Rushden area.
Card payments have become more popular for driving lessons over the last few years, so to make learning to drive more accessible to those who do not have direct access to cash all the time, we introduced this service.
Instructors can still be paid direct with phone banking or cash, as card bookings for one or two hour lessons would incur a fee.
We still accept BACS and cash payments, we no longer accept cheques, for intensive courses, gift vouchers and block bookings
GREEN DRIVING
We take our environmental responsibility very seriously and are aware of our carbon footprint.
All of our cars have eco driving mode, with a stop start facility to save fuel and have less emission impact.
Regular servicing and updating of our fleet of vehicles means we can keep new technology on the road.
How Green is your team?
Our team Green approach, with a driving school owned by the Green Family, means we are constantly looking at ways to help save fuel, and waste.
We plan to add an electric vehicle to our fleet of vehicles as soon as the Renault Zoe is ready to cover the miles needed for a day of driving lessons
We will update this regularly
We use petrol and diesel cars, with a cleaner fuel policy
Although driverless cars are thought to be making an appearance in the 2020’s, there is still controversy attached to the technology, and a general wariness amongst the driving public.
The questions raised and the lack of interest from the buying public is likely to spur Governments to encourage purchase with discounts available at the time of purchase. However many people do not buy a car from new, this means that affordability is likely to be an issue as far into the future as the 2050’s. (more…)
It’s been a busy few weeks for our instructors at Central Driver Training
We would like to congratulate the following pupils
Amy Bates, Anthony Evans, Grace Manning, Julia Gorman, Leonie Reeves, Louise Brown, Mark Wilson, Nikki Swain, Olivia Breen, Tessa Greenaway, Tom Haigh, Rachel Hopkinson (not pictured)
Kettering test centre commonly uses the A14 for tests, there are similar mistakes made on test which result in a fail. Not planning an over take in time leading to getting too close to the vehicle in front. Staying in the wrong lane on a dual carriageway and not preparing for roundabouts. According to a survey of students from the majority of local schools or who are learning with a parent.
The DVSA released the top reasons for a fail.
Top ten reasons for failing Junctions (observation) Use of mirrors – (change direction) Control (steering) Junctions (turning right) Response to signals (traffic lights) Move off (control) Positioning (normal driving) Move off (safety) Reverse park (control) Response to signals (road markings)
In 2014 the pass rate across the UK was 46.9% down from the previous year.
So how can you make sure you do not fall into the trap of others before you.

Central Driver Training, 29 years of driver training. One of our directors was part of the original team. Prior to being called Central this family owned driving school was trading for three years from 1984.
Over the years the business has seen many changes, licences became two part and now one part again. The driving test has changed dramatically in that time, with 1996 seeing a written theory test, this evolved into computer based test in 2000, in 2002 the hazard perception element was added, this changed again in 2015 with the clips being computer generated.
Reverse exercises had parking manoeuvres included, and this element of the test is again under review.
Our priority is a friendly, professional service, our instructors have additional qualifications above the standard ADI licence to teach and two of our directors have a diploma in driving instruction. We work with local businesses offering fleet driver training as well as training for a bigger corporate market, with the emphasis on eco driving and fuel economy.
Blue light, emergency services training, taxi training and instructor training.
Advanced driving qualifications, Cardington Special test, RoSPA, IAM, DIAmond advanced and special test training.
Learner drivers, pass plus registered, refresher lessons, confidence boosting lessons, theory training
