The driving test changes in December 2017

The rush to book a test before the changes meant that test booking times are in excess of eight weeks in most areas.

The new test is nothing to worry about, driving is about car control, understanding your environment and interacting safely with other road users. The changes to the test are the use of sat nav in 4 out 5 tests for the independent driving section only.

The manoeuvres are park on the right hand side of the road, reverse two car lengths and drive on. Reversing into a parking bay. Driving forward into a parking bay and reversing out again.

Emergency stop will still be one in three tests

General driving and road procedure will be tested as before.

All tests should include a minimum of one of the following; a set of traffic lights, a pedestrian crossing, a roundabout, a faster road (above 30mph limit), a junction to turn out to the right, a junction to turn out to the left, a junction to turn in from the right, a junction to turn in from the left, crossroads, a potential meeting situation.

Some show and tell questions will be on the move, please see our downloads section for the latest updates of the questions. You will be asked for two. If you do not carry out an on the move question correctly you could fail your test.

Our trainers travel across the UK helping instructors prepare for their standards check, whether it is their first or their twentieth. At Central we are very proud of our success rate, helping instructors to deliver excellent driver training on one of their most important days and beyond. Our commitment to the driver training industry sees us providing free standards check workshops as part of our contribution to the community. These courses have been found to be invaluable, and many attendees have attributed this to their successful pass.

Previously called the check test, the standards check was revised in 2014, where the grading system changed from 1 to 6, and became A, B or fail. The procedure being the same of three consecutive tests below standard resulting in a fail sees removal of the green badge.

The badge represents livelihood and a career for instructors, to preserve this and to be sure of teaching within a modern, acceptable standard, many ADI’s seek training. Our experience of over thirty years of training has helped many instructors gain a higher grade, or score than previously.

Over recent months we have been called on to help several instructors who have failed the standards check, with advice and training they have turned this result around and gone on to achieve an A grade.

Learn to drive in one of our automatic cars.

No gears, no fears.

If changing gear is leaving you cold,  you are not happy with your timing or concentration then why not try an automatic car.  If stalling is getting you down, then maybe automatic is the right choice.

The automatic driving experience means you can enjoy driving while being able to fully concentrate on the road ahead.

If you take a test in an automatic car you cannot drive a manual one after you have passed your practical test. If you decided to take a manual test at a later date, you do not have to do your theory test again.

First lesson is a special offer price of 1.5 hours for £35

We have automatic instructors covering, Rushden, Wellingborough, Kettering, Corby and surrounding areas.

Fill in the on line enquiry form or call us on 01933 384504 for more information

Do you find one lesson a week isn’t enough? Struggling to fit in with available hours? Would like to fast track your driving licence over one, two or three weeks?

Then an intensive, semi-intensive or combination course would suit you.

It’s ideal for someone who is working and would like to book time off to devote to acquiring a licence. Our instructors are fully qualified and experienced. Intensive courses are available for someone who has never driven or someone who has recently failed a test and everything inbetween.

Male and female instructors available

We have been running our popular one week courses for 30 years, we offer manual and automatic fast pass courses, sometimes called crash courses, although we try to avoid the word crash as that’s not the idea.

Our intensive course tab at the top of the page gives much more information, if you are interested in dates that are available or would like to book please fill in the enquiry form or call 01933 384504
