A new smart crossing has been developed using the latest technology.
Every year 7000 collisions at crossings are reported, to tackle this problem innovators at Umbrellium have designed a crossing which covers 22 metres of road space, and can hold the weight of vehicles.
Using LED lights that can be seen from all angles on a non-slip surface. The crossing can change size to accommodate groups of people and react to traffic approaching, using camera technology.
There have been many attempts to try and resolve the accident rate at crossings in the UK, including lights changing when nobody is waiting to cross to break the approach speed of a vehicle, this in turn ‘reminds’ the driver of the limit and has been successful in the areas it has been trialled in the UK and parts of the EU.

To be able to use current available technology to this extent shows a great path forward in traffic management in the future.
